Recliner As of Friday we will start our little rest period, or our taper as we SWIMMERS like to call it.  The length of a taper can be different for every swimmer depending on the events they are doing, their body type and their physical maturation.  For an age group swimmer this period is usually 5-7 days, and hopefully this will be enough time for the muscles to rest and get ready for the stresses of a 3-4 day meet.  This taper period goes beyond the pool also which means that you want to tone down the activities that will leave your muscles and body with that sore tired felling.  Take care of your body and it will take care of you and get you through the weekend.

Get the right amount of sleep, Pillow  and if you have trouble falling asleep try some muscle relaxation where you start with your toes and relax them and then work your way up.  If you have a lot of school work budget your time so it doesn't all come crashing down at one time.  Remember that little snow ball on top of the hill, if you don't chisel away a little all the way down it will overwhelm you at the bottom.

Keep the groceries up!  Think of this a car with a full tank Gas Pump  will go a lot further than a car with a half tank.  Your body is your car frame and your inside is your engine, FUEL It.  This fuel needs to be high octane too, no junk because that will STARVE your engine.  Eat more greens Broccoli , fats, and protein at meal times.  Do not load up on carbs, these need to be the primary fuel source on meet days!

We have been working towards this all season, and my job is to physically prepare you at the pool for fast swimming at your championship meet, don't blow it with what you are doing away from the pool.  Make sure you arrive on the deck knowing that you've done everything you can in preparation for the meet that you can possibly do, and then let some FAST SWIMMING happen.
