Hey all of you monsters out there, hope you are enjoying your holiday weekend! Sorry I missed you all Friday and Saturday! Gillian I bet your glad I got Heather and not Matt on Friday! This is my vacation weekend and yes there is a storm here at the beach, but I did go into the water, (yes the ocean).
NEWS FOR THE WEEK
We do not have practice on Friday, so you need to plan ahead, and for the High Performance Group. Saturday would be a good day to make up. AGE Group 2 can make up Monday or Wednesday at 6:30 with Coach Beth. Let's not just BLOW it off, you can never get lost time back. Also please note that the meet on the 21-22 has been canceled. Parents we are sorry for this, but you now know one of the problems involved with meets and their duration. Let' not focus on the negative here, lets move on with the meet on the 28. We have learned our lesson with Virginia Swimming.
"THE MONSTER REVIEW"
Have you ever really ever stopped to think about what you need to pack in your swim bag before workout. Suit X, goggles, cap X, water bottle x, ready to go, or are we? Have you ever thought about packing the right attitude into that bag. I hear all of you now Mike what are you talking about? Our summer team years ago had this senior swimmer who would get very upset because of her performance during practice and at meets. It would bring her to tears,
and when I talked to her she would say I swam all winter. My response was Yes you were signed up but you did not attend on a regular basis. She was not comparing candy corn to candy corn, it was more like candy corn to candy cane, there is a big difference and it had to do with her attitude. We had our five minute story last week and now its time to move on. Ask yourself am I warming up properly? Am I quiet (LANE 4) while the coach speaks,
(I Know some of you do because your lips are moving), Do I get out of practice at the wrong times, (bathroom, cramps
, tired). If the answer to any of these were yes than you have forgotten to pack the right attitude, and without it you will not reach your full potential, and WE AS A GROUP WILL FAIL TO REACH OUR FULL POTENTIAL.
Don't forget if we improve by this _ amount each day, than at the end of the week we've improved this much ___ after a month ____________. This attitude involves other things like STREAMLINING off every wall, FLY kicks off every wall in free and back. PULLOUTS off every wall in breaststroke. FAST AND POWERFUL TURNS on every wall. Free walls bottom arm and BREATHE ON THAT SECOND PULL. You can choose not to focus on this and it will affect your results.
The other item that falls under attitude is that the High Performance Group you are supposed to be making three practices a week, and a few of us are falling short. Some of these Villagers are the ones "cramping up and skipping parts of sets, which your fellow Villagers do notice.
So next time lets make sure that bag is fully packed with everything that you need to reach your potential.
