NEWS FOR THE WEEK:
We have all our regular practices this week, and don't forget to pack your bags accordingly, as discussed last week. We will do our challenge free sets this week 100s Monday, 50's Wednesday, 25's Friday. We have two meets coming up on Saturday, October 28th and the long course meet on November 4th and 5th. ALL ENTRIES NEED TO BE IN ON SUNDAY, OCTOBER 22.
When entering the dual meet, lets try to focus on two of your best events, and for the third let's step outside your comfort zone
and swim one you've never done before. For the long course meet lets use this as a training meet if you wish to enter. Let's keep the 50's at only 1 each day and swim some of the longer events. If you have not been making your 3 or 4 days regularly we should not swim in the long course meet. Everyone should be swimming in the dual meet, however.
We in the village would like to send our congratulations to the Berglund family on their new addition.
Yes, Amy has a new baby sister.
SWIMMING WITH HEART
As you approach the starting block for your race, you probably are focused on certain results that you hope to achieve. More than likely it centers around a
(Personal best, Tom Dolan or J.O. Cut), and you forget to race the swimmers around you. Matt and I were at a meet a couple of years ago and had nothing to do, so we did our own little scientific experiment. The heats had eight swimmers in them, and in every case the winner of the heat went their best time, along with the second and third place swimmers. What we did see was that your odds greatly dropped if you finished 4 to 6, and the 7th and 8th place swimmers usually added time. I think sometimes we look too much at that last number on the score board, and don't pay enough attention to the PLACE number right before it. I've had a swimmer once ask me a question, after one of their races, after they failed to swim a personal best. Why are you happier with my swim today, than last week when I went my best time? The answer was simple, last week you just swam, no passion desire or HEART. Today you had that passion and heart, and when the important races come along this summer you will be ready.
Have you ever taken the time to really look at a meet sheet. When you are seeded in a meet, you are placed in a heat of people who are of similar speed. It makes sense that if you were to make every effort to win that heat, you would be swimming faster than you ever have before. "Without those other 7 people in your heat, it becomes more difficult to swim faster. Those people are there to push you". Will you win every heat? The answer is no because that will probably mean that you need to get a best time every time you dive in. A little unrealistic. But if you swim with a passion and a little
you will be a better swimmer in the attempt. You don't have to be extraordinary to win, but you must DO something extraordinary to do it.
