TUESDAY MARCH 16

WEEKLY UPDATE:  All practices this week will be held as normally scheduled.  On Thursday, Friday, and Saturday someone will be covering my groups.  I will be out at the JO meet starting Thursday.  I expect you to help who ever is coaching, and practice should not skip a beat.  It should run just as if I was there.  You all know what you are suppose to be doing.

St. Patty's March 17 Better wear green on Wednesday!

Olympic  JUNIOR OLYMPIC INFORMATION:  This is a trials and finals meet.  the top 8  9 and 10 year olds and the top 16 11 and overs will come back and swim in the evening.. If you make finals and you fail to show up YOU WILL BE BARRED FROM THE REST OF THE MEET.  THERE WILL BE NO EXCEPTIONS!  THIS IS PVS POLICY.  THIS IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY.

ATTIRE:  I EXPECT YOU TO BE WEARING MAKO TEAM SHIRTS AND SWEATS.  I WILL BE VERY DISAPPOINTED IF I SEE ANYTHING ELSE.  The first part of being able to swim well is to look like you belong to something.
WARM-UP TIMES:  I will tell you now that the meet will be crowded so have your patience with you, and before you allow yourself to say anything negatively, remember that most coaches, officials, and parents who are running the meet are on the deck from 5:30 am to 9:00 PM, so give them a break.

11 AND 12 YEAR OLDS  10:30-11:30  (MEET STARTS AT 11:40)
10 AND UNDER 2:00-2:45 (MEET STARTS AT 2:55)

FINALS: 5:15-6:05  (MEET STARTS AT 6:15)

Make sure you are getting the proper warm-up and warm down through out the meet.  I will post a second warm up for you at the meet.  Do not sit around and then get up and expect to swim fast.  YOU need to get your head into the meet and keep your focus throughout this meet.  After your swim go right to the warm-down lanes and get in a easy 150 to 300.  The longer you delay the warm down the faster the soreness sets in.  Keep your mind on the task at hand and that is to swim fast which requires a lot of preparation before and after the swims.  For if the shoulders and legs start to get tight and sore ice them some after the sessions.

Warm-up about 20 minutes before your event.  If this is your second warm- up, You should do about 100 to 150 to stretch out, and then follow that with some hard 25's (4 to 6 ) of free or alternating stroke/free.  Theses should all be very fast with about 20 seconds rest in between.  For the stroke Breast with free kick for fast arms, Back spin drill, fly heads up.  This should get your arm speed up along with your heart rate., Than start to visualize your race and the fact that you are ready to swim FAST!

WEEKLY TOPIC:   Begin Double Quote YOUR LANE End Double Quote

One of the worst things that you can do during a meet is to compare yourself to a swimmer that you are competing against in the meet who may be faster than you may be.  This could be bad or good depending on your personality.  If you are highly competitive a faster swimmer may help you improve that much more, but if you are not highly competitive a faster swimmer may drive your confidence down.

The bottom line is that no matter what type of personality fits you, never allow your competitor to dominate your race, your primary focus should be your lane (you can only control what happens between the lane lines that your in).  Otherwise you may find your own performance is beginning to suffer due to lack of mental focus and attention--and this often occurs with overly--competitive swimmers.

Focus on YOUR lane and YOUR swim, anything else will bring mediocre results.  It's far better to be the cool  Sunglasses swimmer who keeps their mind focused on the race, and not on other swimmers performances which you have no control over at all.

BE A WINNER AND KEEP YOUR MIND ON THE JOB!  Remember that no one can stop YOU except YOURSELF--KEEP YOUR MIND FOCUSED, POSITIVE AND POWERFUL AT ALL TIMES!

THIS IS THE TIME OF THE YEAR THAT I HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR.  EVERYONE OF YOU HAVE PUT IN THE WORK AND YOU ARE READY.    LET'S GET AFTER IT!

I would now say GOOD LUCK but I won't because you don't need any luck.  Your minds and bodies are ready for this!  MIKE
