MARCH 27 THE RACES PART II

Saturday   In The Pool The dawn of a new day brought us all back to the pool so we could continue our assault on our times.  The session started off with some relays!

10 and under 500 free: One other event was on Friday and we had Gavin Springs swim only his 2nd 500 free in his life.  His splits were very consistent throughout the race and he ended up posting his best time by 5 seconds.

200 FREE RELAY:  We entered 5 relays in this event and all 5 of them went best times.  Leading off their relays and establishing official best times were Tyler Springs, Gillian Crews, and yes Matt your split was your fastest as my watch said 7 hours later when Noah Carpenter got it out of the pool.  You see as I was stopping the watch and writing it went into the pool and stayed there until after the 10 and under session.  The watch is 20 years old and it still works.  All together we had 20 swimmers swim 50 free in this event and we achieved 15 best times with the splits, Not bad!

200 IM:  We had 3 swims in this event, with Rachel A. swimming to a best time.  Rachel R. and Sarah G. both came up a little short in this event but showed a lot of heart.

100 IM:  We had 8 swimmers entered in this event, and 7 of them posted best times and the other one posted the same time.  The swim that stands out the most in this group is the one turned in by James Murphy dropping over 4 seconds and making it back to finals.  Also making finals in this event was Rachel Ward who dropped a second and than dropped another second at night.  Dropping over 2 seconds were Megan H., Meg R., Leah R.,and Conor M.  Tyler S. also dropped time and Matt M. posted the same time.

200 BREAST:  We had two of our  Frog 4   Frog 4 in this very long event.  Claire M. posted her same time after a nice swim.  The next young lady had one of the best swims of the meet, when you consider that she is new to the group and back in November I remember talking to her dad to see if we could get her into some longer events to give her the confidence.  She took it and ran, improving her pullouts 100% along the way, Sophie Chase dropped over 10 seconds in this event and would come back at night seeded 4th.  Again she said she felt good and wanted to go out a little harder, and I said OK.  It took a lot out of her legs and she still dropped a couple of tenths.

100 BREAST:  We had three swimmers post their best times in this event.  Amy B> Dropped over 2 seconds swimming her best 100 in a while.  Winning his heat was Conor M. dropping over 6 seconds in the process.  Melissa K. swam a lifetime best dropping her time by a second. Elise who just aged up to this age group a few weeks ago was under a second off her best time.  Conor and Amy would return in the evening to swim these races again.

100 BACK:  Matt J. continued with his impressive swimming dropping another second in this event and making finals as an alternate.  Rachel A., had some good splits but was about .8 off her best time.

50 BACK:  We had 5 swimmers swim this event and we had 4 best times.  Tyler S. was only .5 off his best time.  Dropping time in this event were Logan M. (who made it back to finals and placed 3rd), Leah R., Kylie C., and Meg R.

50 FREE:  Rachel Rogers posted her best time in the morning at 26.10, came back in the evening really "pumped up" and broke that 26 barrier and posted  a 25.82.  Alex Hunter also broke the 27 barrier finally posting a 26.97, and Matt Jones posted his best time.  Sean T. posted about his same time in this event.

200 FREE:  Another distance event for our swimmers, but they would not back away.  Even though we were at the end of the session and I knew they were tired they looked him Dragon right in the eyes and would not back away.  Logan M. and Amy B. both swam best times and would end up swimming next to each other at finals.  James M. dropped over 3 seconds, and Matt M. dropped over 5 seconds and both would swim again in the evening.  Megan H. had a little trouble getting out in the first 50 and fell a little short.

400 Medley RELAY:  The session would end with a long relay so 20 of our swimmers had to step up and swim one more 100.  Out of the 20 swims we posted 13 best times with the splits, with the 11-12 boys of Springs, McGrath, Murphy and Martinez winning their heats.  This was a great effort by all of them after a long session, because they could have blown it off.   Well Done

It was now time for our 10 and unders to arrive at the pool for their swims!

100IM:  All three of our young swimmers turned in best times in this event.  Roman L. dropped over 2 seconds, and would drop a little more time a few hours later at finals.  Anna O., and Noah C both posted best times in the event dropping their times about a second.

100 BREAST:    Elena Summers was our only swimmer in this event, and she had a great race dropping her time by 4 seconds.

50 BACK:  Our backstrokers turned in some incredible swims, and the one that stands out was Gavin Springs dropping about a second while reaching finals for the first time.  Roman L. would drop his time twice in this event, once in the prelims, and again at night in the finals.  Noah C. also posted his best time, and Anna O. swam her same time.
200 FREE:  What an impressive swim turned in By Gavin Springs in this event dropping his time by 7 seconds.

200 MEDLEY RELAY:  Both of our relays posted best times in this event, and we had 7 out of 8 best times with the splits.

SATURDAY FINALS: We had a total of 17 splashes at finals, and it produced 10 more best times, and the rest were about the same that were posted in prelims.  I have already touched on a few races that stood out, but there were two other races that I enjoyed, and both of them had 2 of our swimmers going against each other.  The first was the 200 free with Logan and Amy side by side.  Logan swam the race exactly how we discussed and looked strong throughout the race dropping her time another 2 seconds. If I did anything I would want Amy on my team, and I don't care if it's ping pong, shuffleboard or "whatever," because she is an athlete who is quiet but very focused when she needs to be.  Swimming the race as planned she dropped another second at finals.  The other race was the boys with Matt M. and James going head to head.  Both boys dropped another second off there times from the morning with James again running Matt down.  We tried to get Matt to back off the first Part of his race so he would be in a better position to race James in that last 50.  The only problem is that while James knows how to back off, it is a harder process for Matt to grasp.  A great swim anyway!  The day was over and it was time to get some needed rest for the last day.
