OCTOBER 15-21

Scarecrow  Scarecrow Hope everyone had a good weekend.  This past week we our High performance group had a great week, with a lot of drilling the first part of the week.  We went into Friday and Saturday working on longer swims with a lot of focus on our IM's.  For most of us our we are getting a lot more confidant with our walls  Wall Murals and our underwater swimming.  There are still a few of us who don't understand how important these walls are!  If we have 10 turns in a set, and you do 9 out of 10 than the whole set is wrong!  YOU ALL KNOW WHO YOU ARE, so focus  on doing the things correctly!
AG2 has also been working on the turns and walls with shorter sets, and we are making good progress in this area.  Don't forget wall's to the flags are "NO SWIM AREA'S."

Top Banana for the past week are Brooke Worley from HP and Noah Carpenter from AG2.
Brooke has made all of her 20 workouts which include every Saturday morning.  She had a great set on Friday making all of her target times, while leading a lane.  Noah also has made all of his workouts to date which is 10, and his free and back turns are awesome!  Keep up the good work!

OCTOBER OPEN MEET:  Our first opportunity to race is upon us this weekend, so let's take a few moments and go over a few details!
  • WEAR MAKO GEAR: Whenever you're on deck wear only Mako clothes.  Look like a team! Go Team
  • WARM-UP:  Get a proper warm-up before events and a warm down after events.  Stay warm during the meet!  Wear at least a shirt or sweatshirt, you may not be cold, but your muscles  Flexed Arm are, and will not be able to do what is going to be asked of them!
  • EVENTS: Know your events before arriving at the pool!  How can you be mentally focused if you don't know what you're swimming!  If you are signed up for an event, swim it!  No excuses and don't feel sorry for yourself.  No one cares!
  • HEAT AND LANE: Don't wait till the last moment!
  • RACE:  Checker   We do not go to a meet to swim, we go to race!  Step outside of your comfort zone and race.  Win the heat and chances are good your have a best time. Your chances of a best time decrease with every place drop! ( IT'S TRUE JUST WATCH SOME HEATS)
  • COACHES:  See your coach after every swim!  If they are not there, see one you're familiar with!
  • TEAM AREA:  We are guests, so treat the facility as your own.  Clean up your area before leaving, and don't just throw your trash on the ground!
  • HAVE FUN:  Get involved with the meet, your teammates and have fun, but don't be the  clown  Clown
  • H2O:  Water  Remember to keep drinking water during the meet!
Warm-up times are as follows: Friday 5:00-5:40 (SEE MIKE), Saturday and Sunday 9-12 year olds 12:20-1:20.  Meet starts at 1:30.

Cowboys O.K. The boys ran into a much better  Patriots team on Sunday.  They hung tuff with them for about two and a half quarters, but I believe it was more a matter of the Patriots allowing them to hang around, before they decided to put their foot on the gas.  So we are now 5-1, but still leading the division (at least for now).  By the way did you see the two  Football 3 on Monday night.  Sometimes you have to just be lucky!  See good things do happen if you don't give up!

WEEKLY TOPIC:  We will pick up with nutrition next week, as I feel the following topic is more important with our meets starting.  "WHAT IS A CHAMPION?"
Have you ever thought what it takes to be a true champion?  The following is "A Champion's Creed."...
  • Champions get up one more time than they have been knocked down.
  • Champions give their all no matter the score.
  • Champions do what is right even when it hurts.
  • Champions know winning is not necessarily measured by the final score.
  • Champions take a stand for what is right, even when they stand alone.
  • Champions see every challenge as an opportunity.
  • Champions make those around them better.
  • Champions do the right thing even when no one is watching.
  • Champions dedicate themselves to prepare for success.
  • Champions put the success of others above individual achievement.
  • Champions understand winning is not the only thing.
  • Champions live by a higher personal standard.
  • Champions stand firm when others around them fall.
  • Champions live what they speak and speak what they live.
  • Champions never sacrifice what is best for something good.
  • Champions lay down their own desires for the benefit of other
  • Champions willingly accept responsibility, and graciously deflect honor.
  • Champions may fail....but they never quit
Let's have a good week, and a good ending for the first 5 weeks with a good showing at the October Open this weekend.                                                                   COACH MIKE
