MIKEY'S MONTERS SEPT 24

 Visit My Mail Stamp! UPDATES:
We do have practice this Friday!  Mason informed us on Monday!
Meets: October Open (October 19-21) Entries are due by Wednesday(9/26).  All High Performance swimmers should enter at least one day of this meet.  Please enter the Maximum number of events per session.  Challenge yourself with at least one event you may not like, one distance event, and one of your favorites each session.  This is a training meet!

Olympic Santos Clinic: Saturday, September 29 from 6:00AM-8:00AM.  There is still space and all age groupers should take advantage of this breaststroke clinic.  I heard yesterday from someone that it was too early, but that is an excuse!  We may be able to pick up on a technique that may help us.

PRACTICE WRAP UP:  We had a great week of practice working on our walls, and our underwater kicking.  Great 100 test set on Friday holding those target times during the set.  Remember this "GOOD ENOUGH IS NOT GOOD ENOUGH."  Keep it up! You Rock

Cowboys For all of you who hassle me about the Redskins, I just want you to know that it appears that the Cowboys are now 3-0 after beating the  Bear  Bear's on Sunday.  the Redskins are 2-1 after there great Clock management.  Enjoy the off week you all!

A PERSONAL EXPERIENCE:   I had a triathlon this past Sunday and I want to share this experience with you.  The swim was in a river off the Chesapeake Bay, and because of the lack of rain the water level was low and the seaweed was plenty.  Anyway I decided to get in the front of my wave, and take off.  Big Mistake because in the rush I forgot to set up my breathing pattern and half way through I had to roll to my back (when your in trouble you roll to your back and wave and the Lifeguard boat picks you up), and tried to catch my wind.  Thought about putting the hand up, but then I thought of you all and said I have never been pulled out by the  Lifeguard boat, and what would I expect you all to do in the same situation.  WORK THROUGH IT, THE PAIN WILL PASS!  It did and I was able to finish it, but I will always remember to keep to my breathing pattern, because that hurt!   Club  Club

WEEKLY TOPIC:  GOALS

Swimmers come in all different sizes and shapes, and they bring a variety of different goals with them.  They could range from swimming at a particular college Books , to making the Zone Team, to qualifying for Junior Olympics, to winning a particular race to just meeting friends Best Friends  and hanging out.  Whatever your goals and final destination are you need to map out the road that you are going to travel, and don't forget you will always come upon  Family Road Trip  speed bumps that may slow you down or force you to detour around!
There are two kinds of goals that swimmers usually have, the first being an "outcome goal," which is what you as a swimmer hope to achieve this season.  This week every swimmer will receive a sheet that lists every event that you are allowed to swim.  On the sheet each of you will fill in your best times in each event you have swam and the time you hope to achieve during the season.  (All times should be in yards, if they are meters please indicate.)  Next you are to list 2 goals for the season that are not time related.  These will become your outcome goal for the season.  Notice that some events are in red, these will be events that we will swim through the season!

The next type of goal is a "task goal," which are what you as the swimmer must do to help you achieve your outcome goals.  They may be as simple as streamline off every wall during every set, every day to some harder ones such as get my homework done so I can get to bed early to let my body rest!  After you have filled out the front of the sheet I would like you to turn it over and write or draw 3 task goals that you can do daily to help us get to our destination.  GIVE IT SOME THOUGHT!   The Thinker

I WANT all of these sheets turned back in by Wednesday, October 3rd.  These are very important to me as it is hard to give directions if you're  I'm Lost  I'm Lost and have no clue where to go or how to get there.

WEEKLY AWARDS:  Starting next weekly we will be giving out a top Banana  award to the one swimmer in our group who steps up and makes all practices, sets, listens, has all equipment ready.  Basically this swimmer is jut ready to "GET AFTER IT."  What do you get?  You will just have to wait and see!

NEXT WEEK'S TOPIC:  TEAMMATES

HAVE A GREAT WEEK IN AND OUT OF THE POOL   MIKE
