NOVEMBER 8: UPDATE
WEEK AHEAD: No changes this week, all practices will be as normal. Friday I will have Matt or Heather cover practice as I will be going to South Carolina to see Courtney swim. Meet is at 5 so I should be back in time for Saturday practice. With all our meets coming up this will be my only chance till February. As you are starting to make plans be aware that the first three Saturdays in December there will be no practice due to meets at the pool.
LONG COURSE MEET WRAP:
Overall we all did an awesome job, with several of our teammates achieving their JO cuts, and a lot more who are knocking on the door. We had several swimmers who stepped outside their comfort zone and added new events to their arsenal. New 200 IM'ers Meg R., Christina G., Lauren Y., Maggie S.
New 100 fliers Zoe H., Maggie S., James C.
New 50 breast Meg R.
Swimming their first long course meet Logan R. 50 back, 50 breast, and yes the 100 free.
Rachel ward 50 back and the 100 free. Meg R, 100 free. Adding the 400 free to heir treasure chest were john K. and Lauren Y. We had two of our teammates swim the 400 IM, Rachel A. and Gillian C. who also swam the 400 free the day before.
On Sunday we proceeded on our assault on new events starting with the 200 free with Christie D. and James C. Swimming the 50 fly for the first time Emily B. and Rachel R. Next up was the 100 breast with Shannon C., Ryan M., and than we had Rachel R, Lauren Y. and Rebecca W. who decided that 100 was too short and so they went with the 200.
Rebecca W. than turned around and did a great job in the 100 back, Emily B. swam the 50 free for the first time along with Rachel R. We did have some swims that left us with a bad taste, and WE will work on that. So I leave you with this
"HOW DEEP IS YOUR WELL"
The other day I asked one of our teammates this question, in other words how deep can you go? Let's get up for a 50 on the watch and this was at the end of the practice. I got the typical responses why me? I can't do that! whine
Or maybe the whine came first who knows, it was the typical excuse making and feeling sorry for herself. We have all set are destinations for this season maybe a best time, a Tom Dolan or Jo cut, a team record, a summer pool record, summer all-stars the list goes on. The point is the more grand your destination the further your have dig that well to get their. It won, t dig itself! As with most digging the first few layers seem somewhat easy much as when you were swimming as an 8 and under and best times came with each layer that was removed. After removing the topsoil earthworms and the like you notice you are starting to get stronger, but the dirt starts getting harder to remove, and pebbles start appearing, we hit 9 and 10. You are going to need to sharpen your tools if we are going to continue digging that well. With all the tools you have and the strength you've gained he digging gets easier, but now we've turned 11 and 12 and now we have To move boulders which are in our way. The only way to move those boulders is to work every day on them, if we slack off those boulders will surly come crashing in! Here are some of our boulders that we come in contact with every day
1. Drills- Do them 100% correctly...ALL the time 99.9% is wrong 2. Walls-Streamline off every wall past the flags!
3. Finish-Accelerate into the walls, and no breathing!
4. Intensity-More on anything that is meant to be FAST!
5. Bathrooms-Cut out these breaks, take care of it before practice!
6. Water- Drink your water!!!! Stay Hydrated!!!!(first sign of cramping)
7. Legs-Use your legs on the back side of EVERY repeat!!
8. Weakness- Work on it in practice!! Don't slack off because you don't
like it. (A GREAT IM'ER NEEDS EVERYTHING)
9. Race your teammate when the time is right!
10. DPS- Hold your distance per stroke, and do not break stroke
11. Show up- Can't dig if you stay away from the hole!
If we work together we will get this well dug, but it will take hard work, and at some point we will see the
at the other side. Oh and by the way your teammate swam a personal best in the 50 free!
